LG Innotek has signed a strategic partnership with Applied Intuition, a global leader in physical AI and autonomous driving software. The deal is designed to accelerate the development and validation of drone sensors and autonomous driving sensing modules by combining LG Innotek’s hardware expertise with Applied Intuition’s software and simulation capabilities.

Announced on March 29, the agreement positions both companies to push deeper into the physical AI market. LG Innotek, a South Korean electronics component maker led by CEO Moon Hyuksoo, plans to use Applied Intuition’s software platform and reference vehicles to improve the performance and completeness of its sensing modules. In return, Applied Intuition will incorporate LG Innotek’s sensing modules into its own reference vehicles and simulation tools. The partnership is expected to expand beyond autonomous driving into new areas, including drones and robotics, as both companies aim to lead the emerging physical AI space.

How the Partnership Will Advance Drone Sensors and Autonomous Driving

Under the terms of the agreement, LG Innotek will mount its camera sensing modules on Applied Intuition’s autonomous driving validation reference vehicles. These vehicles will be operated across the United States, Europe, and Japan. Through real world testing in multiple regions, LG Innotek will collect extensive sensor performance feedback across diverse road infrastructures, traffic patterns, and climate conditions. The company plans to analyze this data to identify weaknesses in its sensing modules and make targeted improvements.

LG Innotek also plans to conduct autonomous driving validation tests in South Korea using Applied Intuition’s software platform and operational expertise. This will allow the company to validate technologies still in development, such as convergence sensing solutions that integrate cameras, LiDAR, and radar, through real world driving tests. The company says this approach will significantly shorten its development timeline. Applied Intuition, headquartered in the United States, counts 18 of the world’s top 20 automakers as customers and operates autonomous driving validation reference vehicles that continually refine its technology using real world road data.

A key element of the deal involves LG Innotek’s virtual sensor technology, which replicates the characteristics of physical sensors in a virtual environment using digital twin technology. LG Innotek is the first company to implement a full sensor suite, covering cameras, LiDAR, and radar, within Applied Intuition’s simulation tools. This enables automakers to generate simulation data comparable to real world driving data during virtual testing, allowing autonomous driving technologies to be validated under conditions that closely mirror actual road scenarios. The company believes automakers who use LG Innotek’s virtual sensor during development are more likely to adopt its products for mass production. South Korea continues to be a rising force in the unmanned systems industry, with companies like LG Innotek fueling drone innovation across sectors.

LG Innotek Eyes Drone Sensors and Robotics for Physical AI Growth

The partnership extends well beyond passenger vehicles. LG Innotek has stated that it plans to expand its collaboration with Applied Intuition into new business areas such as drones and robotics. The move is part of a broader strategy to secure a leadership position in the physical AI market, where drone sensors and robotic sensing solutions are becoming increasingly important.

Earlier this year, CEO Moon Hyuksoo announced a vision to transform LG Innotek from a parts supplier into a full solutions provider. Rather than simply manufacturing components, the company intends to deliver optimal solutions through hardware and software integration combined with external expertise. The partnership with Applied Intuition is a direct expression of that strategy, as LG Innotek works to build capabilities in data, software, and sensors for autonomous systems.

“Autonomous vehicles will only scale if the hardware and software ecosystems evolve together. By working directly with LG Innotek, we’re making it easier for automakers to evaluate sensors, validate performance in simulation and on real roads and ultimately move autonomy systems from development into production.” Qasar Younis, Co-founder and CEO of Applied Intuition

CEO Moon added that the collaboration with Applied Intuition’s world leading software technology will allow LG Innotek to provide customers with exceptional solutions that set a new standard in autonomous driving. He stated that the partnership will propel the company to global top tier status in mobility and robotics sensing solutions, making it a leader of the physical AI era. Moving forward, the two companies plan to collaborate on joint promotions that integrate their drone sensors and sensing modules with software solutions across the autonomous vehicle and robotics markets.
