Autonomous drone operations are expanding as Valqari announced it has secured its 17th U.S. patent, extending its intellectual property coverage to include automated package sending. The newly issued patent protects systems and methods that allow drones to autonomously receive packages from a secure landing pad and then depart without human intervention, building on the company’s existing work in autonomous drone infrastructure.
According to the announcement, the patent is a continuation of an original application filed in 2014 and reflects the evolution of Valqari’s technology from autonomous package receiving to full outbound package deployment. The patent covers automated drone loading, secure access to payloads, landing pad identification, and coordinated drone departure as part of a closed-loop autonomous distribution system.
Autonomous Drone Operations Expand to Outbound Package Delivery
Valqari stated that earlier patents focused primarily on autonomous drone receiving and secure landing infrastructure. The newly granted patent extends those capabilities by enabling drones to retrieve packages from a landing pad and autonomously begin outbound delivery missions. This advancement broadens the scope of autonomous drone operations by addressing both inbound and outbound logistics within the same system.
The company described the patent as an important step toward covering the entire drone distribution chain. By securing protection for both sending and receiving functions, Valqari aims to support a wider range of drone-enabled use cases where human involvement is minimized. The company’s autonomous infrastructure is designed to support operations across multiple sectors, including delivery, healthcare, public safety, and defense.
“The original application envisioned drones not only receiving payloads, but also sending them. This is a key area where our systems have already been operating, and it was critical to expand our IP protection accordingly. As the market matures, covering the entire distribution chain from send to end is essential, and this patent is a major milestone for Valqari.” Ryan Walsh, CEO and Founder of Valqari
The announcement noted that the patented system is compatible with multiple drone platforms and is intended to function as part of Valqari’s broader autonomous distribution infrastructure. The company’s approach emphasizes secure, unattended operations that can scale as drone regulations and adoption continue to evolve.
Patent Portfolio Growth Supports Drone Infrastructure Development
With the addition of this patent, Valqari reported that its global intellectual property portfolio now includes 73 granted patents. The company stated that this portfolio includes recently unchallenged European patents, strengthening its position in autonomous drone infrastructure and logistics technology.
Valqari’s patent strategy is focused on protecting foundational systems that enable drones to operate independently within secured environments. By addressing automation at the infrastructure level, the company is targeting challenges related to scalability, security, and reliability in drone operations.
The company emphasized that expanding patent protection is critical as autonomous drone operations move toward broader commercial and public sector adoption. By securing coverage for outbound package sending, Valqari positions its technology to support end-to-end autonomous workflows as drone logistics systems continue to mature.
