3D printed drones and custom drone accessories are becoming more common as makers look for faster ways to prototype parts, refine designs, and keep equipment mission ready. XTI Aerospace said its Drone Nerds business has expanded its Creality product lineup by adding the SPARKX i7 3D printer, a new model designed to make setup and operation easier for creators and technology enthusiasts.

The SPARKX i7 is part of Drone Nerds’ collaboration with Shenzhen Creality 3D Technology Co., Ltd. and is positioned as a printer that can deliver an accessible out of the box experience. The company highlighted several features aimed at reducing the common friction points in 3D printing, including AI assisted setup, full auto calibration, real time AI monitoring, and support for up to four color printing.

For drone users, 3D printing often shows up in practical ways. Pilots and technicians may print mounts, brackets, protective components, cable management pieces, and workshop tools that support a specific aircraft configuration. Printing parts does not automatically make someone a better pilot, but it can make it easier to iterate on small improvements, especially when a part needs to be adjusted and reprinted quickly.

Drone Nerds said the addition of the SPARKX i7 reflects how its customers are expanding what they build and how they work. Many customers come to the company for unmanned aircraft systems hardware and support, then look for adjacent tools that help them maintain, customize, or prototype accessories. The new printer is intended to fit into that same builder workflow.

3D Printed Drones and Prototyping Become More Accessible

According to XTI, the SPARKX i7 is designed to simplify setup while supporting multi color creative applications. The printer integrates AI assisted setup and full auto calibration, which are two areas that can be a major hurdle for first time 3D printer users. When calibration is inconsistent, prints can fail early, layers can shift, and parts can come out slightly off spec. Auto calibration is meant to reduce that learning curve and help users get to reliable output sooner.

“Staying aligned with our customers’ evolving needs is central to how we build our product portfolio. The SPARKX i7 reflects that approach by bringing advanced 3D printing capabilities to a wide range of creative applications.” Jeremy Schneiderman, CEO of Drone Nerds

The company’s announcement frames the i7 as a broader maker tool that pairs naturally with a drone community that already spends time building and customizing. That connection is especially relevant for customers interested in developing new accessories, creating prototypes, or producing parts that support specific operational requirements.

Creality also emphasized the goal of a straightforward experience that still supports more advanced printing.

“We have leveraged our more than 10 years of 3D printing expertise to create a product users can unbox as a powerful plug-and-play, multi-color printer. Partnering with Drone Nerds enables us to bring the SPARKX i7 to a broader audience in the U.S. market.” Larry Yee, Chief Strategy Officer and VP of North America Sales at Creality

The SPARKX i7 is available for pre order through Drone Nerds, giving customers a direct path to purchase through the retailer’s online store.

AI Monitoring and Multi Color Printing Support More Reliable Output

One of the most notable operational features described is a built in AI camera designed to monitor prints in real time. XTI said the system is designed to detect conditions such as filament entanglement, air printing, and “spaghetti,” along with build plate checks, then notify users when attention may be required. Monitoring matters because many prints can run for hours, and a small issue early in a job can lead to a large failure later. Automated alerts are intended to help users catch problems sooner.

The announcement also highlights an integrated automatic filament switching system that allows users to produce up to four color models without manually changing filament during an active print cycle. Multi color printing can be used for visual design, but it can also be practical for prototypes where different colors help identify features, labels, or part orientation. For creators building parts around drones, color can be useful when organizing components or testing multiple design revisions.

To support print quality, Creality includes proprietary flow control and vibration compensation algorithms intended to improve surface finish and model detail. The printer also includes design features intended to reduce operational noise. A Night Mode setting reduces operational sound levels and turns off system lighting during printing, which can be useful for users printing in shared spaces.

Maintenance is another focus area. The system incorporates a modular design with quick swap components, including the hotend, cutter shaft, and extruder handle, intended to simplify maintenance. For users printing regularly, easier serviceability can reduce downtime and keep projects moving without long repair cycles.

XTI Aerospace described Drone Nerds as a provider of unmanned aircraft systems solutions, services, and hardware, serving enterprise, private, and recreational needs. The company also noted that Drone Nerds delivers enhanced reliability and assurance for enterprise implementations through its Always Flying program, supporting use across multiple industry verticals. Adding a new 3D printer option fits into that broader effort to expand the tools available to customers who build and deploy UAS systems.
