DJI has introduced DJI Dock 4, a drone-in-a-box system that can replace a drained battery on its own in 25 seconds. Announced from Shenzhen, China on October 14, 2026, it is the first DJI dock built around an automated battery swap, and it ships alongside a new enterprise aircraft called the Matrice 5TD. Together they are meant to keep a drone ready to launch around the clock.
DJI is pitching the system as a dock-as-a-first-responder, or DFR, tool. The aim is to cut the time between an alert and a clear view of the scene, so teams can assess what is happening and give crews on the ground better live context. Target uses include public safety, emergency response, remote infrastructure inspection, overnight security, and surveying. Adding the DJI O4 Ground Station lets operators deploy from a higher position to keep a stable link where buildings or walls block signals.
How DJI Dock 4 Speeds Up Every Response
After a remote command, the Matrice 5TD lifts off right away and can travel at up to 21 meters per second, reaching a scene ahead of ground crews. It streams low-latency video while in flight, and a dedicated transmission setup brings drone-to-cloud latency down to 160 milliseconds, roughly 32 percent lower than the previous generation.
The battery swap is the headline change for DJI Dock 4. Rather than sitting through a 30-minute recharge between flights, the dock trades batteries automatically, and each flight can last up to 59 minutes. DJI notes these figures came from a production model in a controlled environment, and its Dock 4 product page explains that some features depend on specific drones and regions. The dock works from minus 40 to 50 degrees Celsius, warming batteries in the cold and using air conditioning in the heat.
The aircraft can take off, land, and fly in winds up to 12 meters per second. If gusts pick up on the return trip, its Wind-Exceed Descend-and-Return feature flies lower and heads home, even over mountains and forests. Payloads up to 450 grams, such as speakers, spotlights, and parachutes, can be added, and a built-in warning light can be switched on during security patrols.
Matrice 5TD Sensors Cover Day and Night Missions
The Matrice 5TD packs telephoto and infrared cameras, laser ranging, and full-color night vision into one airframe, so crews do not need to swap aircraft as conditions change. It also offers survey accuracy of up to 10 centimeters at 12MP. The 11x telephoto camera can capture detail from 400 meters away and spot pin-level flaws on power lines from 100 meters.
Its infrared camera reaches 2560 by 2048 resolution in UHR mode and offers 32x zoom at night to reveal overheating parts and damaged insulators. A fusion mode overlays the thermal and visible feeds in one frame. In the dark, 4K night vision records color images without a spotlight, and a 3 km laser rangefinder can add distance data and PinPoint coordinates for power line checks, rescues, or wildfire estimates.
For obstacle avoidance, the drone combines three-directional mmWave radar, a rotating LiDAR unit, and six-directional vision sensing. DJI says this setup can pick out thin wires at night and handle crowded sites such as substations packed with live equipment. Six high-resolution low-light fisheye sensors keep full-color sensing working under city lights after dark, and pairing the drone with the O4 Ground Station extends its signal around high-rises or behind substation walls.
Onboard AI and Data Security in DJI Dock 4
Artificial intelligence is built into the aircraft as well. Using DJI’s Onboard AI, the Matrice 5TD detects 17 types of objects in real time, including cars, boats, and animals. Detection can also run directly on live video feeds. In DJI FlightHub 2, operators can search for objects by text or image and set SMS, email, or platform alerts that trigger snapshots, recordings, tracking, or hovering.
On security, DJI says it has sent products for third-party audits and certification since 2017, including reviews by OnDefend, Booz Allen Hamilton, FTI Consulting, and Kivu Consulting. The Matrice 5TD also carries a Flight Termination System module, a key requirement for C6 compliance, which can stop the propellers manually or automatically if the drone crosses its Geocaging boundary.
DJI Care Enterprise Plus is available for a DJI dock for the first time with Dock 4, covering eligible repair materials within the coverage limit. For the Matrice 5TD, the plan adds a yearly battery replacement and new Flyaway Coverage, while DJI Official Extended Warranty Service extends the warranty by one year. DJI Dock 4 will be sold through authorized DJI Enterprise dealers.
