The global drone market is on course to more than double in value over the next decade, according to a new forecast released by Maximize Market Research on October 15, 2026. The Pune, India based research firm estimates the sector was worth USD 9.23 billion in 2025 and expects it to climb to USD 21.41 billion by 2034. That path works out to a compound annual growth rate of 9.8% across the 2026 to 2034 forecast window, with 2020 through 2025 serving as the historical baseline for the study.

According to the firm, several forces are lifting demand at the same time. Defense budgets are rising, commercial operators are adopting unmanned aircraft in larger numbers, and artificial intelligence and autonomous flight systems are changing what drones can accomplish. The analysis covers fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and hybrid VTOL platforms, and it also sorts aircraft by how they are flown, ranging from remotely piloted models to semi-autonomous and fully autonomous systems.

AI, BVLOS, and Defense Spending Drive Global Drone Market Growth

Technology sits at the center of the forecast. Maximize Market Research points to machine learning, Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, drone swarm technology, 5G connectivity, and advanced navigation as areas opening up new opportunities. Sensor payloads such as LiDAR and thermal imaging also make the list, tying the outlook closely to the drone camera market and the equipment operators carry into the air. The firm adds that leading manufacturers are putting money into AI driven software, autonomous navigation, and Drone-as-a-Service (DaaS) models as they work to improve efficiency and stay competitive in the global drone market.

On the application side, defense and military use is identified as a key segment, supported by spending on surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, border security, and autonomous operations. Agriculture is another area of rising adoption, with growers using drones for precision farming, crop monitoring, and aerial spraying. The full drone market report also highlights surveying and mapping, infrastructure inspection, logistics and delivery, and energy and utilities work. Among end users, government and public agencies are flying aircraft for disaster management, emergency response, and environmental monitoring, while commercial enterprises are expanding into construction, mining, and infrastructure monitoring.

North America Leads as Skydio Expands U.S. Drone Production

North America held the largest share of the market in 2025, according to the report. The United States is the main contributor, with demand coming from autonomous UAV systems, intelligence and surveillance work, border security, and infrastructure inspection, while Canada is widening drone use in agriculture, mining, energy, and environmental monitoring. The firm cites Skydio as one example of domestic momentum. On April 24, 2026, the company announced plans to spend USD 3.5 billion over five years to grow its drone manufacturing, speed up research and development, and strengthen American supply chains. That investment is expected to create more than 2,000 direct jobs, support over 3,000 supply chain jobs, and send more than USD 1 billion to domestic suppliers.

Outside North America, Asia-Pacific is described as an important growth region, helped by China’s established drone manufacturing base, Japan’s progress in autonomous aerial technology, and India’s expanding UAV industry. In Europe, demand for military drones, industrial inspection UAVs, and autonomous aerial systems is rising, particularly in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The Middle East and Africa offer openings through defense modernization, energy inspection, and smart city projects, especially in GCC countries, while Brazil is supporting gradual adoption in South America across precision agriculture, mining, and public safety.

The competitive field is crowded. The report names 32 key players, among them DJI, Anduril Industries, Shield AI, Skydio, AeroVironment, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing’s Insitu unit, Airbus Defence and Space, Parrot, Zipline, and India’s ideaForge Technology. According to the firm, these companies are competing through new UAV products, strategic partnerships, defense contracts, AI integration, and autonomous flight software. Maximize Market Research expects businesses that invest in autonomy, advanced sensors, BVLOS capability, and drone swarm systems to be well positioned as the global drone market expands through 2034.
