Innoviz LiDAR technology will sit at the heart of a new counter-UAS perception module developed by Cogniteam, following a partnership announced by the two companies on July 7, 2026. Innoviz Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: INVZ), a Tel Aviv based supplier of high-performance, automotive-grade LiDAR sensor platforms, is teaming up with Cogniteam Ltd., a provider of AI-powered perception and autonomy software platforms. The integration is designed to let system integrators and security solution providers rapidly deploy systems that can detect, localize, track, and classify drones with a high degree of accuracy.
The new module is not starting from scratch. It builds on more than a year of operational experience Cogniteam has gathered through successful deployments of its ClearZone platform alongside Innoviz LiDARs. Those deployments covered perimeter protection, critical infrastructure security, and border surveillance, all environments where accuracy, reliability, and low false alarm rates are essential. According to the announcement, that field work demonstrated the specific advantages that high-resolution 3D LiDAR perception brings to these demanding settings.
How Innoviz LiDAR Improves Drone Classification Accuracy
One of the toughest problems in drone defense is telling a genuine threat apart from everything else in the sky. Cogniteam has developed a unique AI-driven 3D analytics engine that tackles this challenge by drawing on the rich spatial and temporal information produced by Innoviz LiDAR sensing. The system studies object morphology, motion characteristics, flight behavior, and 3D signatures to reliably distinguish drones from birds and other airborne objects. By pairing advanced machine learning algorithms with this level of object analysis, the solution is designed to deliver highly accurate drone detection and classification while significantly cutting down on false alarms, so operators can respond confidently when a real threat appears.
“We are the eyes of the defense ecosystem. Our LiDAR gives defense organizations the exact 3D position of a threat, so the systems they already own act with far higher confidence. This is proven automotive technology aimed at the most urgent security problem of our time.” Omer Keilaf, Founder & CEO of Innoviz
Keilaf’s comment points to a central theme in the announcement: technology originally proven in the automotive world is being redirected toward airspace security. Innoviz has built its reputation as a Tier 1 supplier to leading automotive manufacturers, and its sensors are engineered to deliver exceptional range, resolution, and reliability, providing accurate 3D sensing even in harsh weather conditions. The company’s InnovizSMART product line extends that same automotive-grade foundation into security, defense and homeland security, intelligent traffic management, mobility, robotics, and aerial applications, giving the Cogniteam collaboration a hardware base that has already been tested against strict industry standards.
A Perception Layer for Larger Counter-Drone Ecosystems
The counter-UAS module is built to slot into the security systems that customers already operate rather than forcing a rebuild. Innoviz and Cogniteam say it can be seamlessly integrated into existing security architectures and can serve as a core perception layer within broader counter-drone ecosystems. The solution was developed to support deployment by system integrators, defense contractors, and security providers, including Barak555, the security systems integration subsidiary of Drive Group. Interest in AI-driven aerial threat perception has been climbing across the industry, with platforms such as EDGE ClearSky also drawing attention as security organizations look for faster and more dependable ways to identify hostile drones.
“Effective drone defense requires not only detecting flying objects, but accurately understanding what they are. Our advanced analytics, combined with Innoviz’s LiDAR, deliver a level of detection accuracy and classification reliability that is difficult to achieve with conventional sensing.” Dr. Yehuda Elmaliah, CEO and Co-Founder of Cogniteam
Together, the two companies describe the combined offering as a mature and scalable foundation for next-generation counter-UAS and critical infrastructure protection systems. Cogniteam brings an off-the-shelf unified cloud-based platform that helps robotics companies and integrators manage, deploy, and control AIoT devices, robots, and entire fleets, while Innoviz contributes LiDAR hardware and perception software backed by operations across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. For a security market dealing with a steady rise in drone-related risks, a partnership that turns proven automotive sensing into a ready-made aerial classification tool gives buyers one more practical option to consider.
