Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is preparing for a high-energy summer, and the return of its Busch Gardens drone show is one of the headline reasons guests are looking skyward after dark. The Florida theme park confirmed the news alongside a leadership change, naming attractions industry veteran Jon Vigue as its new park president. His arrival comes during a period of heavy investment, with the company pouring more than $100 million into new rides, animal habitats, and guest experiences.
Vigue steps into the role with nearly three decades of experience in the attractions business. He joins Busch Gardens Tampa Bay after a long stretch leading Wild Adventures Theme Park in Georgia, where he focused on operational strategy and development work aimed at improving the guest experience and setting the park up for steady growth. The appointment lands at a moment when the park is leaning hard into nighttime entertainment, and the aerial show has become a central piece of that effort.
Busch Gardens Drone Show Lights Up Summer Nights
The Busch Gardens drone show, branded as Wild Skies: Drone Show & Fireworks Spectacular, returns as part of the park’s Summer Nights celebration. As darkness falls on select evenings, the sky over the park transforms with 400 synchronized drones paired with fireworks and immersive music. The park has scheduled two separate nighttime productions this season, giving repeat visitors a reason to come back for more than one version of the display.
The first production is a patriotic show built around America’s 250th birthday, followed by a brand new Busch Gardens-exclusive drone spectacular set to debut on July 10. These nighttime displays anchor a broader summer lineup that also brings back the Summer Nights event through August 9, featuring extended evening hours and all-new entertainment. The investment also extends to food, beverage, and entertainment offerings meant to enhance each visit from day to night. Guests can also catch the new Beach Bash show with its retro-inspired music, the returning Boom Box Dance Party, and complimentary beer for visitors 21 and older.
Jon Vigue Brings Decades of Theme Park Experience
Throughout his career, Vigue has built a reputation for operational leadership, team development, and creating memorable visits. Before his time at Wild Adventures, he spent close to twenty years at Lake Compounce Theme Park, where he played a key part in the property’s turnaround and long-term success. He has also been active with the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions since 2007, most recently serving as Chair of the Food & Beverage Committee for North America.
Park leadership framed the hire as a natural fit for where Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is heading. Kyle Miller, Co-Chief Parks Operations Officer at United Parks & Resorts, the park’s parent company, said the team is focused on improving every part of the guest experience and pointed to Vigue’s operational track record as the right match for that vision. Miller added that the company expects Vigue’s leadership and focus on innovation to help drive its next chapter of growth. Vigue echoed that enthusiasm in his own remarks about joining the team.
“The park has an extraordinary legacy of combining world-class thrills, inspiring animal experiences and immersive entertainment unlike anywhere else. I look forward to working alongside our passionate ambassadors as we continue building on that legacy, investing in the future and creating unforgettable experiences for guests and families across Tampa Bay and beyond.” Jon Vigue, Park President
More Than $100 Million in New Attractions and Upgrades
The leadership change arrives during one of the most active investment periods in the park’s recent history. Recent additions include Wild Oasis, an immersive family adventure area that debuted in 2025, while the all-new Lion and Hyena Ridge is described as the park’s largest and most immersive animal habitat in more than a decade. The new realm features five young male lions and a pair of hyenas surrounded by wide 270-degree viewing areas, water features, and elevated rocky overlooks that bring guests closer to the animals than ever before.
Daytime guests are not left out either, with indoor shows such as Cirque Electric, Animal Tales, Icons, and Rhythm of Nature offering air-conditioned ways to stay cool during the hottest hours. Schedules and seasonal details for the evening drone and fireworks display are posted on the park’s Wild Skies show page, which lists the dates the two spectaculars run through the season. Together, the new habitats, refreshed entertainment, and expanded nighttime offerings give Vigue a busy slate as he settles into the president role.
For families across Tampa Bay, the combination of a major leadership hire and a growing roster of attractions signals a steady push to keep the park active from open to close. The Busch Gardens drone show gives the season its after-dark centerpiece, while the daytime additions round out a full schedule. With Summer Nights running through early August, guests have several weeks to catch the displays before the event wraps.
